Shang’s luxury living mega project with all the works is set to rise in 2031.
Shang Bauhinia takes its name from the Bauhinia, also known as the orchid tree, prized for its large pink or purple blooms. It’s a 52-story luxury high-rise from the same group behind the heritage-rich Shangri-La Plaza, One Shangri-La Place, and, of course, the brand’s beloved five-star hotels.
Since pre-selling began in 2024, many of the sought-after units, including the garden units and other Signature units, have already sold out, a reflection of how compelling Cebu has become as both a residential address and an investment destination. Esquire Philippines attended the post-launch walkthrough of Shang Bauhinia on Sept. 8 at the residential showroom in Cebu Business Park.
A reflective look at Cebu’s luxury space is that it is historically horizontal and coastal. This translates to a sprawl of the provincial capital’s old-money family compounds or the more laid-back beachfront hideaways in Mactan.
Shang is penetrating a compelling market where a towering vertical hated village in Kasambagan situated beside Cebu Country Club and some of the province’s most prestigious schools could land the company a vice grip on it.
Shang is purposefully blurring the lines between constructing an island paradise and modern living that integrates with metropolitan comforts.
Behind the chic European design ethos of Bauhinia are FM Architectura and Casas + Architects, Inc., which veers away from soulless monoliths.
The interior design philosophy here leans heavily into Cebu’s heritage of tropical craftsmanship, with each suite’s tiling fashioned with tiling created by local artisans so that the identity doesn’t lose itself in foreign architecture.
The best way to describe Bauhinia is a lot having an oasis or an exclusive microcosm that is composed of layers of exclusivity that just isn’t a dime a dozen in the Visayas.
The vertical paradise is poised to be a sanctuary within the cosmopolitan Cebu business district, and it’s making a pretty strong case ahead of its actual groundbreaking.
This vision is split into the Residences and the Shang Bauhinia Signature.
The epicenter of daily life is assigned to The Clubhouse, a sprawling 4,015-square-meter activity hub dedicated to the universal resident experience. It boils down to a ginormous pool, one of the largest gyms or fitness facilities in a residential that we’ve personally been privy to, and a playground for the rugrats.
The upper floors are reserved for the Signature collection of units, consisting of larger two- and three-bedroom homes that operate as an exclusive community within the already grandiose digs.
Those who have the means to lock in one of these units would bypass the shared spaces via the private lifts ascending into the 1,105 square-meter rooftop Sky Lounge.
Buying a unit from this collection is a lot like getting a VIP wristband at a music festival.
Shang also vows to integrate a mandatory 100 percent power backup system for both common areas and individual residential units for uninterrupted continuity.
While we have yet to actually see the materialized Bauhinia in all its swanky glory, this is definitely a transformative project in the luxury living space that needs new life breathed into it within the Visayas region.
